Naomi Judd was 76 years old when she passed away unexpectedly on April 30th, 2022. Just a day before she and her daughter, Wynona Judd, were to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The family has announced that she tragically took her own life after years of struggling with depression. She was not only an accomplished musician and the matriarch of the country music group “The Judds” but she was also a loving mother and wife. Earlier this month Naomi and Wynona performed “Love can Build a Bridge” at the 2022 CMT music awards where they announced they would be going on “The Judds’ farewell tour beginning September 30th, 2022. Wynonna and Ashley Judd released a statement on April 30th saying, “Today, we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by the public. We are in unknown territory.” After the announcement of her passing, the family insisted that the Country Music Hall of Fame ceremony go on as planned. Wynona and Ashley accepted the award and Wynona stated ” I didn’t prepare anything for tonight because I knew mom would talk the most.” Fans are shaken from these events, especially so soon after the announcement of their farewell tour set to start this fall. My heart goes out to the sisters and all those who loved her. This is a painful reminder that mental illness doesn’t descriminate, nobody is immune, even our music stars.
